Hank Timmermann Bass Fishing is pleased to announce that the “KEITECH USA 2010 Northeast-Mid Atlantic Bass Fishing Tournament Spreadsheet” has been posted on my website (www.hanktimmermann.com). As of today, 2/2/2010 we have listed just over 1000 tournaments from Lake Winnipesaukee to Lake Gaston. The front work sheet is in chronological order. There are also individual worksheets for each lake. Just click on or scroll to each lake worksheet. Each listing has a hyperlink to the club or the sanctioning body website. We will be posting updates as we receive tournament schedules. Last year we had just over 1500 tournaments listed and we have set a goal of 2000 tournaments for 2010. Any club that would like to include their schedule can e-mail (waxman18324@yahoo.com) me and I’ll be happy to send them a preformatted form to make life easier.

Thanks
Hank

That's not good. Do you have Excel ? Starting this year and in the future I'm posting it only on my website.

I couldn't open it either.

Hank,
Love the idea, but you should really use a database. WAY easier for you to manage too. I could set something up for you on this site if you'd like. Would be so easy. I'd create a page for you to log into and enter and edit your data, and then also create a display page for visitors so that once the data is in there, they could simply select from drop menus or use search fields to narrow the results.

PM me if you'd like to discuss.

My guess is it's because his version of Excel is higher than ours. I even have the Microsoft Office Converter Pack installed and I still had no luck. It actually hosed my Excel app and I had to do CTRL+ALT+DEL and end the task in the Task Manager to get Excel to close.

The webmaster may be right as I have Excel 2007. The next update will be at the end of next week. Perhaps I can post it in the 95-2003 version of Excel.

I'm not famiiar with data bases and I'm now selling advertising space on the spreadsheet and that in itself may cause a problem. Either way its something to think about for next year.

Yea you need a newer version of Excel. I could open it at work where I have the latest version but I can't open it at home (Office 97).

It has a ".xlsx" file extension. The older versions of excel can only open files with ".xls" file extensions.

Hank - You can save the spreadsheet as a ".xls" workbook and that would give more folks the ability to open it.

The next update will be saved in xls. I apologize for any inconvenience. This is my new and improved computer, which I bought just after the new year, as the old hot rod crashed and took all my files with it unfortunately.

The word spreadsheet has no place in fishing. I haven't been able to open his calendar for years.

I'm opened minded. Instead of spreadsheet...do you have an idea in mind? BTW...Do you have dates and location info for the Snowball?

Database......you'll wonder where it's been all your life!

I see your site supports PHP. Does your host offer you a mysql database as well? I'm guessing yes. Usually they go together with web hosts. I see your pages are php, so I'm guessing you have some php knowledge. Get a mysql database setup and structure out a few tables to store the data and write some code to display it to your visitors.

Let me know if you need help. I can give you some advice on structuring your tables

Scott,

Thank you. But Im sorry as you have me at a disadvantage as I don't have a clue what your talking about. The website was set up by a friend and he does all the work for me. I just put together the spreadsheet and he uploads it. I don't do this full time as my lawncare business is my primary focus. I put together the spreadsheet to contribute to the bass fishing community. What little money I do make from products and or advertising pays for the rising costs of fishing licenses, launch fees and some gas.

I manage this site part-time as well, and I don't make a dime, so I understand. In fact, this site costs me about $120/year just for the hosting. But that doesn't matter anyway. Lucky for me, I've dabbled in programming for the web enough to build some useful applications similar to yours. And I do it for the same reasons you do. I've built my applications to hopefully help our angling brethren either get a web presence for their tournament trails, and/or have the ability to log data in the logbook and tournament tracker tools I have here.

I would ask your friend if he could build you something like I described. If he can't, I could probably whip something up for you here on this site, or at least give your friend a hand building it. PM me if you'd like to discuss it further or need help building an application on your site. This is something I could whip up on my site in just a few hours. Getting it displayed to visitors and "looking good" takes the longest to finalize.
